Romeo Doubs Expresses Confidence in Jordan Love as Green Bay Packers' Quarterback

In an interview with Dennis Krause of SpectrumNews1, wide receiver Romeo Doubs shared his unwavering belief in the Green Bay Packers' decision to transition from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love at the quarterback position. Doubs stated that he didn't see a significant difference between Love and Rodgers during the 2022 season.

"I think Jordan can do it," Doubs confidently stated. "I believe Jordan is a truly talented quarterback. While Aaron Rodgers was exceptional, I think Jordan has the ability to replicate his success."

Doubs' statement is bold, considering Love is stepping into the shoes of a Super Bowl-winning, four-time MVP in Rodgers. Beyond the championship and numerous accolades, Rodgers boasts an impressive resume, including 10 Pro Bowl selections, nearly 60,000 passing yards, 475 passing touchdowns, and a 65.3% completion rate over 15 seasons as a full-time starter.

These are daunting standards for any quarterback, especially for someone who has only attempted 83 passes for 606 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions in 10 games. Love, whom the Packers traded up to select in the first round of the 2020 Draft, has spent the past three seasons learning behind Rodgers, which may have helped him develop. Regardless, he now assumes the role of QB1 following Rodgers' departure from the Packers, ultimately leading him to become the starting quarterback for the New York Jets.

During the 2022 season, Love and Doubs connected on just two passes for nine yards out of Love's 21 passing attempts. Doubs had a solid rookie year, tallying 42 receptions for 425 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games, ranking fourth on the team.

With the departure of Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb to New York, and tight end Robert Tonyan signing with the Chicago Bears, Doubs is set to become one of Love's primary targets. The only other returning receivers in Green Bay are 2022 second-rounder Christian Watson and 2022 seventh-rounder Samori Toure.

As a result, Doubs is expected to assume a leadership role within the offense.

"I can't deny that I shouldn't be a leader in 2023. From an outsider's perspective, everyone expects me to take on that leadership role," Doubs expressed. "I'm focused on becoming a complete receiver, refining my hands, improving my release game, and sharpening my route running. We need to maintain a high standard for those who look up to us."

The Packers are aiming to execute another successful succession plan with the transition from Rodgers to Love, similar to what they achieved with Brett Favre and Rodgers in 2008. While history shows that lightning rarely strikes twice, Doubs remains optimistic about Love's potential.
